Models

Over the past two years, I have focused my time towards building a model of Natchez, Mississippi as it might have looked like in the 1720s. This model is informed by early maps of Natchez, colonial renderings of architecture, archaeological evidence, and French fort reconstructions. As with most projects, this is not the final say on what Natchez looked like. In particular, the time it takes to build a model such as this, in the absence of huge institutional and monetary support, means that there will inevitably be differences between reconstruction details and current knowledge. Rather than thinking of this as a failure, I instead would ask you to see this as an opportunity to critically evaluate reconstructions with such anachronisms in mind.
